Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about our Berghia snails, breeding, and secure shipping to all EU countries.
How does the shipping of live animals work?
The protection of the animals is our top priority. We only ship via express delivery so that the snails are en route for the shortest possible time. The packaging is precisely adapted to the season: In winter, we use thick-walled Styrofoam boxes and professional heat packs. In summer, we protect the animals from overheating. Delivery only takes place on days when it is ensured that the package will not be left in the depot over the weekend.
Do you also deliver to my country (EU)?
Yes! We successfully deliver our Berghia snails to all EU member states (e.g., Austria, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, etc.). Thanks to optimized transport routes, the animals arrive safely and vitally even internationally.
I no longer see my snails after introduction – is that normal?
Yes, that is completely normal and no cause for concern. Berghia snails are strictly nocturnal and extremely sensitive to light. During the day, they hide deep in the live rock or under coral feet. Only when the aquarium light is completely extinguished do they come out and hunt for Aiptasia.
How do I know that the snails are working?
Since you rarely see the snails themselves, you recognize their success by the Aiptasia: First, the smaller Aiptasia at the base of the reef will decrease. After a few weeks, you will notice that the larger specimens also shrink and eventually disappear completely.
Do Berghia snails eat anything else?
No. Berghia stephanieae are evolutionarily so specialized that their digestive system is exclusively designed for the tissue of Aiptasia. They do not eat frozen food, algae, or food tablets.
What happens when all the Aiptasia are eaten?
When no more food is available, the snails eventually die from lack of nourishment. Many aquarists then pass the snails on to fellow aquarists who also suffer from an Aiptasia plague, or they transfer them to a separate algae tank/breeding tank with Aiptasia.
